In the sports world, all to often commentators and pundits get away with bloody murder. They get on television, spout off their "expert" opinions and predictions, and more often than not they are proven completely wrong immediately after the game. Fine. These guys aren't perfect- they are only human and bound to make mistakes. The problem is that no one holds these guys accountable. Their pre-game comments are immediately forgotten and the sports world moves on as if everything they had said nothing at all.
What does this breed? I'll tell you: This breeds more recklessness than Brittany Spears getting out of a car with no underwear. And its just as disgusting. Sure, everyone thought they wanted to see Brittany Spears without underwear. And you thought you wanted to see who Kirk Herbstreit predicted would play for the National Championship before the college football season started. But then you actually see Brittany Spears' vagina after two kids and getting fat, and then you actually see who is playing for the National Championship and all you can do is hang your head in shame. Why Brittany? Why Herbs? Why have you wronged us so?
And make no mistake. While commentators get it wrong in every sport, it matters much more in college football. College football is the only sport in which the championship game is based on subjective analysis by commentators, pundits, and writers. Sure, computers have something to do with it, but only one-third. The fact of the matter is that what these commentators say can persuade other voters and can determine who plays for the National Championship game.
Something must be done. Something will be done. We are going to hold them accountable for the crap that comes out of their mouth. No longer will their pre-game chatter be immediately forgotten. We are going to get as much of it as possible, and compare it to what actually happened. It will be more than just their picks. We will try to include predictions on player performance and impact on the game, bowl predictions, and anything else we can hammer them on.
What's that you say Corso? Closer than the experts think? What's that Mark May? USC is so good that you want too suck-? Uhhh, you get the idea. We'll see, and we'll call you on it...if it happens, you'll get credit. If it doesn't, well, believe me, you're going to hear it from us.
This is not the first site that attempts to do what we are doing, but we will try to be different. This blog is no doubt going to start as a very simple site with very few readers...maybe only four over the next year or so. And for right now, by saying that we are going to get as much of the commentary as possible, I really mean that its going to be barely any at all. But kicking this off during bowl season was as good a time as ever, and maybe by next September we can actually have some things of substance. In the future, all of the contributors to this site have different ideas on how to expand and make it better, and hopefully someday we can actually do that. Or maybe we'll end up drunk and this will be the only post. Because thats what usually happens with this group.
So...here we go.
