Oklahoma-Nebraska
Actual score: Oklahoma 21-Nebraska 7
Corso: Nebraska upsets OklahomaGrade: C.
Oklahoma scored 14 in the first quarter and never looked back, giving Corso a bad start. It wasn't a route, and I don't think it was out of the realm of possibilities for the Huskers to pull it out. But they didn't. So Corso sucks.
Herbstreit: Zac Taylor is one of the most underrated QBs of the year, and the Sooners would have to shut him down to have any chance. Sooners win the game.
Grade: B+.
Taylor has had a good year, and threw for 282 yards yesterday, but came out with one TD pass and three interceptions. Overall an OK performance...I wouldn't exactly call 282 yards a complete shutdown, so there were obviously other factors that contributed to the Sooner win. However, there will be more on this specific comment later.
Army-Navy
Actual score: Navy 26-Army 14
Corso: Navy 44, Army 14. Army has 0% chanceGrade: C.
Corso really went out on a limb here and showed how much of a homer he can be. I'm going to give Corso credit for getting the Army points exactly right, but thats as far as it goes. Army kept up for the whole game and Navy couldn't pull away until the fourth quarter. The statement that Army had a 0% chance came directly out of his ass. Since I am unpaid and not considered an expert, I'll be a homer anytime I want. Corso doesn't have that luxury.
Herbstreit: Navy CLEARLY the better football teamGrade: C-.
CLEARLY the better football team, eh Kirk? It was 14-7 going into the fourth quarter. He got it right, but CLEARLY didn't take into account that this is one of the biggest rivalries in football and rivalries in college football always have a chance of being close.
Fowler:Only one of the three to give the cadets a chanceGrade: B+.
Fowler still called it for Navy, but knew that it wasn't going to be a runaway.
Arkansas-Florida
Actual score: Florida 38-Arkansas 28
Corso: Florida will win because of Chris Leak's performance. Passing game will carry the Gators, but the game outcome will be close.Grade: A-.
Is 38-28 close? You be the judge. Did Chris Leak have a good performance? 189 yards, 16 for 30, 1 TD and 2 INTs...seems about right for Chris. I think Corso was about right on this one.
Herbstreit:Arkansas has no shot, will not even get a first down and asks why are they even showing up. Then picks Arkansas.Grade: F. Which stands for Fucking Lunatic.
Seriously. What the hell is the matter with this guy. There was no indication that he was joking when he was saying that Arkansas had no chance. He literally said "Arkansas will not even get a first down." If he was trying to be funny, then fine. I'm all for jokes. But he didn't have a smirk on his face, not a chuckle, nothin. Then he goes and calls it for Arkansas. Am I in some sort of parallel universe where people who are paid to talk on television are not required to make any sense whatsoever? I thought Corso was the one that was getting more senile by the day, but this takes the cake. Herbstreit didn't have one coherent thought regarding this game. Oh yeah, and GO GATORS.
At this point College Gameday did a full analysis of USC-OSU as though there is no other possibility of a different championship game, despite Fowler's little disclaimer at the beginning of the segment that USC still has to go out and beat UCLA. The following grades will be assigned because they allowed this travesty to occur and actually contributed to the discussion:
Corso: D
Herbstreit: D
Fowler: D+ because of his disclaimer
USC-UCLA
Actual score: UCLA 13-USC 9
Corso:USC close.Grade: B-.
Corso was the closest although he still called it for the Trojans. I think he wanted to call it for UCLA, but he just didn't have the balls to do it.
Herbstreit:The game will come down to the Bruins getting to the QB. The combination of Booty, Steve Smith, and Dwayne Jarrett will be too much. UCLA will keep it close for the first quarter and a half, but USC pulls away and goes right through them.Grade: F. STRAIGHT UP F.
So the game comes down to UCLA getting to Booty, huh? Thats real original...oh wait, no its not. He said the same damn thing for the OU-Nebraska game. Is that your canned answer? When you have nothing better to say you go with "have to get to the QB". Since I just now started tracking these statements, I have no idea how many other times he's used it this year, but I bet its a shitload. UCLA will keep it close and USC pulls away and goes right through them? Sorry douche, USC is the one that kept it close, not the other way around.
Overall for the day, Corso gets a C+, Herbs a D, and Fowler, with only two grades assigned, gets a C+.
So what have we learned? Well, not much since this is the first time that I've done this. But if we were going apply this week's Gameday to the rest of the year, we can say a couple of things.
1. Although most college football fans seem to think that Corso loses his sanity a little more each year, it seems as though Herbs is the one that is completely incoherent.
2. My opinion is that its not that Herbs has gone crazy, its just that he is cocky. He's calling the prime time ABC games, he got his ass kissed on HBO's Real Sports while sitting in his home theater, and on and on it goes with this guy. No one has called him on his shit, so he feels like he doesn't have to put any thought into his commentary anymore. As long as he goes on TV and talks, well, he's Kirk Herbstreit, college football extraordinaire, so people will buy it. Not anymore Kirk. From now on your going to have to put a lot more effort into your job. Dumbass.
See you next time.

Eventually (when you get the other talking heads included), instead of assigning grades, why not rank them like they do the football teams? That's a weekly poll that would get a lot of interest.
Definitely. I absolutely hope to get to that at some point, and hopefully i'll have a system down by the time the 2007 pre-season polls come out.
